Installation Underway

Jim operates the trencher while Larry checks the depth.

Last week (August 29) under the direction of Larry Wise, 600 feet of electrical conduit was laid.  This connects the parks service pole to a new subpanel.  When completed the irrigation system will have power and circuits for future use will be available.

PG&E has again agreed to assist with the Park’s development.  This time by pulling the wire through the conduit.

Installation of the irrigation system is ongoing.  It began last week with Larry Wise laying out the baseball fields and beginning to transfer the irrigation plan to the field itself.  He was assisted by Dennis Rollins on the chalker.

The City of Lakeport delivered irrigation pipe from winter storage.

Today Jim Holmes joined the crew to operate the trencher.  The City of Lakeport delivered the pipe from the City Yard.  The Committee had stored it there for the winter.  Larry and Dennis laid close to 2000 feet of it along the new trenches.

Ready for assembly.

On Wednesday five more people will begin the process of cutting, gluing and assembling the pipes, valves and sprinklers that make up the irrigation system.  This will take several days.  This group was provided and will be supevised by Floritino Vazquez.

The Westside Community Park Committee owes thanks to all who work on the project.  The Committee is truly appreciative of Larry Wise.  Without his knowledge and countless hours of volunteering the current project would not be possible.

Help with Cleanup

Men at Work

Players from the Atlas Men’s Soccer Team spent several hours last week weed eating and cleaning up around the Rotary Soccer Fields in Phase 1.  Equipment and fuel was donated by long time supporter UCC Rentals in Lakeport.  Team members have assisted several times in the past with work on Phase 2.  Their recent efforts assisted the City’s limited park maintenance crew and greatly improved the appearance of the park.

Road Survey

Norman Stewart of Ruzicka & Associates surveys access road.

Ruzicka and Associates, long time supports of the Park, recently completed grade staking of the Phase 2 access road.  This work was one more donation in a long list of donations provided by Cliff and Nancy Ruzicka.  The road will now have dirt removed and grading completed to establish the subgrade for future development.  The removed dirt will be used to complete the filling of the north end of the playing field.

Who would have thought?

Idle equipment continues to wait for the ground to dry out on July 5, 2011.

RB Peters Construction began the final bit of grading on Tuesday, July 5.  Work had to stop before the end of the day because the ground is TOO WET.  It was July 5th and the temperature was close to 100 degrees but the ground a couple of feet deep is still to wet to work.  Equipment was getting stuck and proper compaction could not be accomplished do to the level of moisture in the dirt.  Another attempt was made today, Friday, July 7, with the same results.  Maybe Monday will be better.
